NYC Pride is one of the biggest and best gay prides in the world; after all, we are talking about the Big Apple.
The first NYC Pride celebration took place a month after the Stonewall riots in June 1969, which marked the beginning of the modern gay rights movement. 500 people gathered for a rally in Washington Square Park, followed by a candlelight vigil in Sheridan Square. NYC Pride continued this tradition of pride by hosting the event at various locations throughout the city. The march passes the Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street, location of the June 1969 Stonewall riots.
The LGBTQ+ Pride Parade is held again in June after a two-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic. NYC Pride during 2020 and 2021 was held virtually.
The event lasts nearly two weeks, taking place largely in the West Village, from June 15-26.
The official theme for NYC Pride 2022 is “Unapologetically Us”
The world begins to be reborn after a pandemic that gave society a complete reset and forced everyone to reconsider and reprioritize their lives, NYC Pride recognizes that fight and the resilience of the LGBTQIA+ community, indicates an explanation of the topic in New York City Pride website. Many people have focused on exploring their true selves, going out into the world with vibrant, loving hearts and souls open to the public, no matter how scary, insecure, or vulnerable.
The 53rd edition of the New York City Pride Parade will kick off on June 26 at noon.
* The tour begins at 25th Street and Fifth Avenue, and will continue south on Fifth Avenue before heading west on 8th Street.
* After crossing Sixth Avenue, the march will continue down Christopher Street past the Stonewall National Monument and turn north on Seventh Avenue.
* Will be dispensed in Chelsea at 16th Street and Seventh Avenue.
It will also feature five grand marshals for the 2022 parade on June 26:
